POAC is a leading international conference on ice engineering, winter navigation, and offshore operations in cold regions. It brings together researchers, engineers, industry experts and policy makers. Conference themes will include sea ice mechanics and dynamics, modeling of sea ice, ice-going ships and winter navigation, offshore wind in cold regions, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and climate change impacts on sea ice and ice engineering design.

Venue

POAC’27 will be hosted at Dipoli, a conference center at the Aalto University campus. Located approximately 10 km from the center of Helsinki, the Aalto University campus is easily accessible by public transportation and can be conveniently reached from Helsinki Airport. The metro journey from downtown Helsinki to the campus takes about 15 minutes. The campus area is known for its distinctive architecture, innovative research environment, and strong concentration of high-technology companies and start-ups. Aalto University is Finland’s leading university in engineering and technology, and our campus provides an inspiring setting for international scientific exchange and collaboration. The campus is also home to Aalto Ice and Wave Tank, one of the internationally leading research facilities for ice engineering and Arctic marine technology.

Programme

POAC’27 will take place from Sunday (June 20) to Thursday (June 24). The programme will begin on Sunday an icebreaker reception. From Monday to Thursday, the conference will feature keynote lectures and parallel technical sessions covering the themes of POAC'27. In addition to the technical programme, participants can enjoy social activities throughout the conference. The conference banquet will be held on Wednesday evening. A detailed programme will be published closer to the conference.

Paper submission

Paper submission for POAC’27 will during autumn 2026. Authors are invited to first submit abstracts in November 2026, followed by full paper submissions in February 2027. See key dates for the full timeline. The submitted papers will be peer-reviewed. More detailed instructions, including submission guidelines and templates, will be provided at a later stage.
